There are just some places that I just have to tell you about… and The Dish and The Spoon cafe in Nunhead, is one of them. The coffee, supplied by local roaster and mobile brewer Dark Fluid (to be found at Brockley Market every saturday), is awesome. The baked goods by resident chef Jassy, all look amazing and thankfully she always has something gluten free. Often it is the insane Millionaires Shortbread, that you would NEVER guess is gluten free. More recently there have been GF macaroons and even a vegan banana bread that my allergic son could eat.
I must admit I mostly go there because the lovely Shona (owner) has created a space for mums to relax with high quality coffee whilst the kids play in the corner with all the toys. And through the summer there is a whole calendar of activities from local providers – including sessions with Crafty Cooks who kindly accommodated my sons egg allergies for the sessions.
So if you are ever in the area, and especially with children in tow, head to the Dish and the Spoon for a taste of the growing number of awesome coffee shops in SE London.
