There are increasingly few categories of gluten free food which are left to be exploited and turned GF. Pies is one of them – and now includes the recently launched, and already award winning Gluten Free Pie Co. Launched by Steven of Foodmentalists, these are proper hand raised, hot water crust pies made entirely gluten free. As anyone who has ever made GF pastry will know, there must be some skill involved here! With GF pastry prone to cracking, crumbling and not holding any filling, I can confirm these pies are a fantastic achievement.
And don’t worry as there’s is no junk in them either. Nothing artificial, local ingredients and hand made to order these are a real, artisan, handmade product. Packed with filling, the crust holds up brilliantly, and on reheating goes golden and flakey. You would genuinely struggle to know these aren’t ‘normal’ pies.
With a massive and growing range of fillings available, you can expect traditional pork pies and vegan alternatives, smokey BBQ pork, and all day breakfast, simple chicken, leek and cider and many, many more.
Having only just launched, they are currently available to order direct, or at various local markets and shops. I urge you to seek these out and try them.
